‘I need Some Of That‘ by Weezer – Single Rating: 5/5 ★★★★★
‘I need Some Of That‘ by Californian rockers, Weezer is everything that we all need in our lives right now with its feel-good summer pop-punk vibe.
The track from the bands ‘Van Weezer‘ album shines a nostalgic lens at yesteryear. Moreover, it provides a pathway back to the genre’s heyday where the band feel most comfortable. It opens with a drum fill overture, and the guitars rip through the speakers with thunderous flavour. The mix suddenly takes a step back, with frontman Rivers Cuomo rising to the occasion; he takes the focal position with a thought-provoking wordplay performance which gets us gripping to his every word.
1992
Vocally, Rivers Cuomo is as ravenous as when the band first took the world by storm in 1992 and he captivates with his unique vocal hooks. He also provides the track with the signature catchy quality, which the group have been delivering seamlessly over their tenure. He states that the group will never grow up, which is ideal because we do not want them to stop doing what they do so well!
‘I Need Some Of That‘ boasts an eclectic range of sounds that rise out of the spacious mix. The guitar lead stands out after the midsection, matching the melody of the vocal hook. It also takes us towards one of the most anthemic pop-rock finales to leap out of the scene in recent times. Furthermore, the band take no hostages in the closing stage. So much so, all members prove why they have been around for so long!
