‘Huffy’ by We Are Scientists – Album Rating: 4/5 ★★★★

When you’re having fun, time flies, as evidenced by the fact that We Are Scientists first appeared on the scene 21 years ago. Who knows where all that time has gone? It seems like only yesterday that the Scientists were saturating the indie scene with their upbeat vibes. Well, lucky few, you’ll be happy to know that they’re back, and with their new album, ‘Huffy,’ they mean business.

‘You’ve Lost Your S**T’ is the first track on the album, and it’s a delight from start to finish. It starts off right, with the duo’s trademark indie-rock edge satisfying the ears as if they never left, which they sadly did with no album in three years. However, they deliver here, and the third-track ‘Handshake Agreement’ demonstrates that they are still one of the most catchy bands of our day. With each new release, they become more powerful, and each track stands out on its own.

Our firm favourite is ‘Sentimental Education,’ which provides something fresh and new while delving into an aura that the band first tapped into many moons ago. ‘Behavior Unbecoming,’ the final track, brings everything to a close with a bang. It has an 80s soundtrack that permeates the mix. Also, the vocals that ooze from the speakers entice for all the right reasons.

Overall, the new album from the California band is a fantastic offering. It’s also a sign that they’re as smashing as they’ve ever been!
