‘Constant Girl’ by Von Venn – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★

The Irish band Von Venn, who hail from Dublin, have resurfaced with a new single, ‘Constant Girl’, on which they sound as powerful as ever. The new single will feature on the highly-anticipated new album by the band titled ‘Jeanie Is Out’. It is likely to arrive in 2023.

Gary Cox, a singer-songwriter who also leads the band, is responsible for bringing back the golden indie-rock touch, which reminds all of us why this musical genre and style will always be able to withstand the test of time. There are echoes of other bands, such as Radiohead, in this release due to the layering of a variety of musical components. Additionally, the songwriting approaches used here are reminiscent of the late Jeff Buckley.

‘Constant Girl’ starts with a drum tap beat and a guitar lead that delves into a diatonic area. After that, Gary Cox delivers a vocal performance that fills the room with his undeniable passion and determination. His self-assurance is also palpable and helps cement the track deep as it progresses. The song develops into a more complex piece as it continues, with the momentum increasing throughout the refrain and then gradually slowing down during the verses. Additionally, we come across synth leads that softly lend an additional dimension to the backdrop without excessively affecting the mix.
