U2 are back with new music, although not particularly new to the group but new to our ears! Moreover, the Irish band have decided to revisit their writing sessions which took place over 20 years ago, re-releasing a new mastered version of “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb”, as well as sharing 10 new unreleased tracks from that period under a new album title “How To Re-Assemble An Atomic Bomb”.
Two New Tracks
The two new tracks which the group have revealed so far are “Country Mile” and “Picture Of You (X+W)”. Both will be medicine to the ears of many U2 fans with the group reminding us why they are still regarded as one of the best rock bands on the planet.
Country Mile
“Country Mile” starts in typical U2 fashion with The Edge’s trademark guitar tones ringing out in the introduction. The drums soon appear alongside a salient vocal delivery from Bono. This song has a powerful aura which makes me wonder why they never included it on their album in the first place, maybe deep down they had envisioned releasing this one at some point in the future. I am glad they have dropped it though because it deserves to be heard.
Picture Of You (X+W)
The next song to be revealed by U2 is “Picture Of You (X+W)”. This one to me feels more raw than “Country Mile”. I really like Bono’s vocal delivery on this one. It feels very energetic and his narrative is impactful. Furthermore, I am hooked on his every word and the experimental structure and quirky musical backdrop makes it even more special.
