Following a string of red-hot performances on the festival circuit, including killer main stage sets at Reading and Leeds festival and of course the Isle of Wight, The Wombats have released another indie-pop banger Bee-Sting. Following the success of their latest album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, which has racked up a jaw-dropping 80 million streams to date, Bee-Sting is another ode to the mindfuckery of relationships. The surprise single came with the announcement of an extended edition of Beautiful People which will be released on November 9th and will feature two other bonus tracks alongside Bee-Sting, an acoustic version of Lethal Combination and brand new song Oceans.
The Liverpudlian lads have managed to stay relevant and fresh despite the rough ride faced by guitar music over the last decade and Bee-Sting is the perfect example why. Combining weird and wonderful lyrics, (they had us at “Jumping like a dog on Prozac”) with boppy drum beats and finger lickin’ good guitar riffs, this tune is sure to become a fan favourite.
Following the release, frontman Matthew Murphy said:
“I think the song is again a bit of an homage to the ‘90s, a bit of a psychedelic nod to early Dandy Warhols, maybe. Our UK tour in March/April was probably my favourite tour ever, but it feels like this one is going to go off even more. Wembley is going to be a real moment for us!”
A band who were made for performing huge stages in front of even huger crowds, their upcoming UK arena tour will no doubt be their best yet and with Bee-Sting added to a setlist of infamous indie bangers (don’t pretend you haven’t jumped around like a loon to Let’s Dance to Joy Division) this makes us all the more confident. If you’re up for a good time, this is where it’s at:
