Content Guide
“Bodies Laughing” is the new single from the “Cutout” album by The Smile featuring Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner. For diehard The Smile fans, this one will likely be butter to your ears. But for someone sitting on the fence like me, it does not pull me much closer.
The first impression of this song is that it is an adventurous delivery. It certainly pushes itself outside of the box and it has various sounds which you will likely struggle to locate anyplace else. But, how does it make me feel? Honestly, I am struggling to connect to this track, it does not really make me feel either happy or sad, it is just music going into my ears. There is a lot of talent evidently within the group and their aptitude shines through but I want to feel something deep when listening to new music.
Radiohead
This song does not sound a million miles away from Radiohead classics, although that is not much surprise given that two of the band members are also in Radiohead. This similar sound appears to have gone down well with Radiohead fans after reading countless comments online with many stating that this track reminds them of early Radiohead.
Raw
The group have always kept their sound raw and authentic with very little studio polish occurring in the mix. The Smile project has always felt like a space for the Radiohead members to play around in and just be themselves and experiment. It is often more adventurous than tracks found on Radiohead albums. For me, I do enjoy raw sounds but sometimes things just seem to get a little lost for me on this track, anything kind of goes; I am sure others will love that!
