Guide
Indie rock collective The Secret Radio are back in style with their new single, “Swimming Pool On Mars.” Taken from their debut album “Shortwave”, the track is a striking blend of bold storytelling, dynamic musicianship, and an almost cinematic atmosphere that captures the imagination from the very first beat.
Queens
Originally formed in Queens in 2006, The Secret Radio have always had a knack for coming up with songs that seem both personal and big. Moreover, York born singer-songwriter Damian Fowler brings a style that draws from a diverse palette, and he helps the band create a sound that is comparable to luminaries like David Bowie, Radiohead, and Regina Spektor while also forging their own unique identity.
Dreamlike Setting
“Swimming Pool On Mars” kicks off with a commanding piano riff, immediately pulling listeners into a surreal, dreamlike setting. As the track unfolds, tight drum work and shimmering guitar textures create a rich backdrop for Fowler’s emotive vocals, which carry a raw intensity that’s both grounded and otherworldly. The song builds with sweeping layers of synths and melodic bass lines, creating a sound that feels lush yet focused, never losing sight of its emotional core.
Helping to bring this vision to life are contributors Bebbo (guitar), Asen Doykin (synths), JungSang Yoo (bass), and Tom Cottone (drums). The full album sees even more talent blended in, with violins, horns, and even accordion enriching the sound. Co-produced and mixed by Asen Doykin and mastered by Adrian Morgan at Timeless Mastering, Shortwave sounds polished without losing the raw edge that gives “Swimming Pool On Mars” its staying power.
