Guide
The Rasmus, the Finnish band who brought us the knockout, “In The Shadows” back in 2003 have returned with their new single, “Creatures of Chaos” and I have to say, it is pretty damn solid! The band have always had a hard time living up to their smash hit, and although this one is not quite as catchy, it still packs an almighty punch.
Song Analysis (The Rasmus)
This bold anthem in the key of G Major is a real thumper, and it starts as it means to go on with crunchy guitar riffs and stadium-filling drum hits. If you are lacking in motivation, give it a spin and you will be propelled straight into action. I highly rate the energy in the track, and the fierce tones grip me to the speakers. It features a huge chorus with singer Lauri Ylönen belting out a soaring, anthemic melody that strikes while the iron is hot.
The Rasmus – “Creatures of Chaos” Lyrics
Intro
Creatures of chaos
Love it or hate us
If you’re feeling dangerous
That means you’re one of us
Verse 1
Psychos, sickos
Welcome to the church of zeros
Trainwrecks, rejects
Look around as God’s my witness
Crypto grifters
Misfit toys and twisted sisters
Broken cradles
We will catch the fallen angels
Pre-Chorus
Don’t fear, it’s clear
That you belong here
Chorus
Creatures of chaos
That’s how they made us
We are contagious
The future’s afraid of us
Creatures of chaos
Love it or hate us
If you’re feeling dangerous
That means you’re one of us
Verse 2
Mischief makers
Jacked up punks and misbehavers
Freaks of nature
Nonprescription medicators
Pre-Chorus
The weird, the queer
Yeah, you belong here
Chorus
Creatures of chaos
That’s how they made us
We are contagious
The future’s afraid of us
Creatures of chaos
Love it or hate us
If you’re feeling dangerous
That means you’re one of us
Post-Chorus
Yeah
Pre-Chorus
Psychos, sickos
We will catch the fallen angels
Chorus
Creatures of chaos
That’s how they made us
We are contagious
The future’s afraid of us
Creatures of chaos
Love it or hate us
If you’re feeling dangerous
That means you’re one of us
Outro
Look what they’ve done to us
The future’s afraid of us
The future’s afraid of us
The future belongs to us
Meaning (My Opinion)
Having examined the lyrics I spot themes of rebellion, outsider identity, and the importance of accepting our own differences. Moreover, the song depicts a society that marginalises those who do not conform, psychos, sickos, rejects, and misfits while these same people find solidarity and power in their shared disarray. Lines like “We will catch the fallen angels” suggest a sense of belonging among those who have been cast aside, transforming pain and rejection into a badge of honor. The repeated emphasis on danger and fear, particularly in “The future’s afraid of us”, hints at a disruptive force. This suggests that the so-called misfits are not just fearful of the world, but may even be shaping it.
Beyond its rebellious character, the song sends an inspiring message to individuals who feel like outsiders. The phrase “That means you’re one of us” serves as an invitation to embrace one’s uniqueness rather than conform to societal norms. The references to chaos, danger, and mischief suggest that these qualities, often seen as negative, can be a source of strength and identity. Additionally, the mention of “the weird, the queer” broadens the song’s inclusivity, affirming a place for all who have felt different or marginalized.
