Ask me to name one band that instantly reminds me of my childhood and I will likely say The Offspring. The second I see their name, never mind hearing their music, is when feelings of my younger years come gushing back and I love it! Therefore, upon realising they had a new song out, I knew I had to get stuck in!

Their new release, “Ok, But This Is The Last Time”, is everything I would have expected and more to be honest. Moreover, the group from California bring back the pop punk energy I have been secretly craving without realising and they knock it out of the park right from the get-go!

Dexter Holland

The track starts with a vocal intro from frontman, Dexter Holland, there is a gradual build up until The Offspring as I remember them rock up with a sound which will have even your grandma tapping along! The one thing which The Offspring do time and time again is deliver infectious choruses and they rise to the occasion with might once again here! So much so, that you will be humming this one long after it concludes.

Meaning

The narrative in this track delves into themes of emotional manipulation and toxic relationships. The lyrics speak about a relationship where one person has more power and control than the other. There also appears to be an inner conflict and struggle with Dexter revealing that he has an obsession for the other person, constantly thinks about them and tries to resist the thoughts of having them back in his life. It is a candid story that many will find relatable.
