Content Guide
Post punk / gothic rock outfit, The Horrors are back and spooky as ever with their new single, “The Silence That Remains”. Just in time for Halloween, the ominous sound of the band from Southend-on-Sea returns and with a whack they smash it right from the start!
Eerie Introduction
An eerie introduction greets us before bass tones glued atop fast drum strikes drive us forward. Synths soon emerge and a web of sounds echo around the mix ahead of a salient vocal performance from frontman Faris Badwan. I remember first discovering this band around 2007 and they blew me away with “Strange House”. I will be honest, I have not listened to them in quite a number of years, therefore seeing this new single arrive on my new music list was a gift I didn’t realise I needed.
Three-Year Wait
It is the first delivery from The Horrors since their “Against The Blade” EP which they dropped back in 2021. A three-year wait, but one which many will argue was worth the wait. Moreover, the group have evidently taken some time away to further explore their unique sound and they rock up with vehemence here. It is also an indication as to what to expect from their next album, their sixth studio album, “Night Life” which is to drop on the 21st of March 2025 via fiction records.
Quirky Vibes
Overall, this is a quirky and special track by The Horrors. It is refreshing to witness them keeping true to their distinct sound while also exploring new territory. I cannot see this entering a top position on the official singles chart anytime soon given its unique appeal, but I imagine that it will go down a treat amongst their loyal following. It is great to have them back!
