Content Guide
The Darkness have always been an intriguing group in my opinion, they have always done it their own way and have never really fitted in alongside other songs in the charts they reside in, but that is what makes them so great! They are back too and with their new song, “The Longest Kiss”, they delve into a new more poppy realm.
Underrated Rock Group
If you ask someone to name a song from The Darkness, they will likely start singing you a terrible rendition of “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”, arguably it is the band’s biggest and most well-known song, well it is within my age group. But, the group has actually way more to offer than just that “Permission to Land” album from way back in 2003. In fact, they are actually a very underrated rock group and when not spending his time YouTubing, Justin Hawkins is a really strong songwriter. If you are yet to watch Justin’s YouTube channel by the way, be sure to check it out, it is really good!
Infectious Sounds
“The Longest Kiss” by The Darkness, is a very pop-infused track, remove the vocals and you could easily mistake this as a song from The Hoosiers, remember them? This track lends quite far to the more gentle side in the opener that it is difficult to categorise it as a rock track, something which the band are usually known for, especially with their infectious guitar licks and rocky vocal hooks! Although it does not get back to familiar territory mid-way through, but it is not quite to the extent you may expect from the group.
Trademark High Notes
The vocals from Justin Hawkins are delivered perfectly! He is one of the singers who has not lost his magic touch, in fact, he can still reach those high notes as if it is their debut record. Also, the rest of the band still appears to be as fresh as ever, and lucky for you lot, they are heading out in tour in 2025!
