Content Guide
Rock band, The Cure are back with “Alone” and with them, they return with their trademark gothic-rock vibes! Fans of the band are going to live this one I am sure!
Instrumental Introduction
“Alone” is a lengthy track sitting at around 6 minutes and 48 seconds, but to be honest, it does not feel as though it should or could be any shorter. Moreover, it starts with an instrumental introduction, a rather long intro too with singer, Robert Smith not arriving until past the three-minute mark, a point where most songs have wrapped up. The Cure just keep on giving, and there is a reason why they have lasted the test of time, they have a unique edge and they sound at their very best here.
First Single From The Cure Since 2008
It is the first new single from The Cure since 2008 and it was worth the wait. The dreamy aura they create sends me off and although there is misery dripping out of every corner of the mix, there is also a bizarre beauty which glues me to the speaker rim. The music which we are first introduced to leads us to Robert in a graceful way, the stadium-filling drum hits blend faultlessly with the angelic synths and echoey guitar tones.
Meaning
Robert pays respect to the “Dregs” poem written by Ernest Christopher Dowson and the narrative explores various themes from grief, death and loneliness. He has always ensured that his songs hit with depth and this one certainly does that.
Overall, the best way to sum this track up is truly epic. It is a song from the Rock and Roll Hall of fame inducted band which signifies their return, and by heck, I am glad to have to have them back!
