Ohio Rockers

Ohio rockers, The Black Keys get back to it with their new song, “The Night Before”. This track for me is exactly what the doctor ordered with the band’s contagious indie-rock quality greeting me like a long-lost friend. The track is from their highly-anticipated new album, “No Rain, No Flowers” which is to arrive in 2025.

“The Night Before” is an immediate hit in my eyes and it has a funky indie groove which will have you moving along to the infectious rhythm. The track starts as it means to continue with the drums and guitar coming together with vehemence, creating a wall of sound which will rattle your speakers for all the right reasons.

Meaning (My Perception)

The lyrics sum up the complex mix of highs and lows that define being a human; therefore you are likely to relate. In the first verse, singer, Daniel reflects on the struggle of trying to maintain mental balance, hinting at a turbulent state of mind. The imagary which comes to mind of seeing stars everywhere creates a sense of disorientation. It is as if caught in a cycle of emotional extremes. This tension between feeling “high” and “low” suggests a life that is unpredictable.

“We’ll always have the night before,” the chorus’s recurrent subject of nostalgia emphasises the value of ephemeral but momentous events. The memories of past years ease Daniel, mostly from light-hearted moments marking young or rebellious days. The verse depicts an escapist burning money and also looking for comfort in close connections. Beyond the disorderly backdrop, though, one finds satisfaction and this is summed up in the sentence “But it feels alright.”
