Content Guide
There is one rock band who always excite me and that is The Amazons. The group who formed in 2014 are back with their new track, “My Blood” and it is everything I could have hoped for from the group and more!
Thunderous Start
The track starts with a thunderous opener, this is no surprise if you are familiar with their earlier releases. Their music has a unique depth and a bold quality which always gives me goosebumps and this track is no exception with the salient guitar riffs rattling the speakers. The drums strike with vehemence and singer, Matt Thomson holds nothing back with an omnipotent vocal delivery. The chorus is catchy and has all the markings to become an immediate crowd-pleaser.
Meaning (My Perception)
The words of “In My Blood” particularly resonate with me personally. Moreover, Matt addresses that inner struggle we all have experienced, the will to move forward, and the will to keep searching for something greater even if all around us looks to be stacked against us. The lyric “Into the violence, Not counting on the world to change” feels like a punch in the gut, a defiant stand against what society expects and the harsh realities we have to deal with. It’s about embracing the chaos inside and fighting through life’s hurdles, realizing that change won’t just magically happen outside of us—it has to come from within.
There is hunger for more and this can be felt with a sense of craving. This is summed up in the line “Bound to hunger, An ache that I can never explain”. It’s almost like caught in a loop of need and want always striving for something just that bit beyond our reach. Matt, the singer, will not back down in spite of pressure, though, and this reminds us all to never give up in life—even if others are telling us otherwise.
