‘The Boat I Row’ by Tame Impala – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆
Psychedelic Australian band Tame Impala get the charismatic indie juices flowing with their new release, ‘The Boat I Row’. Kevin Parker, the project’s multi-instrumentalist and creator, goes even deeper musically here, and his enthusiasm permeates every aspect of the creation.
‘The Boat I Row’ is an experience you won’t be able to get anywhere else! It is not wholly new for the band, though, from the Deluxe Edition of their album, ‘The Slow Rush,’ which was released two years ago. Nonetheless, it is still new to the bulk of us, and it is ear therapy from the start!
Distinctive Characteristics
It begins with a dreamy and surreal environment, with Tame Impala’s distinctive characteristics immediately rising out of the compound. It’s not a million miles away from the band’s biggest hits, but it still has plenty of unique flavours that keep us on our toes for the duration.
This track showcases the band’s distinctive synth sound, transporting us to outer space with its celestial richness. It flawlessly complements the drum rhythm, adding to the already firm foundation laid by the myriad of additional instruments that emerge as the track develops. Also, the bass leaps from the speakers with an infectious cadene; it will have even the most stern of listeners tapping along!
Overall, ‘The Boat I Row’ is up there among the best of the group. As a result, many people will be scratching their heads, asking why it didn’t make the album two years ago!
