Rock band, Snow Patrol made their highly anticipated return to Hull, and I was there to witness the magic unfold! Performing at Connexin Live for the first time, the band delivered a set filled with fan favourites, moments which touched the heart, and a few surprises along the way that none of us were expecting.

Nina Nesbitt

Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt kicked the night off with a beautiful opening set, warming up the crowd with her emotive vocals and strong songwriting. Her intimate and stripped-back sound provided the perfect prelude to what was to come a short time later.

Snow Patrol Waste No Time

Snow Patrol took to the stage and the energy in the venue could be felt. The band held nothing back and wasted no time, launching straight into fan favourite “Take Back the City”. The entire place lit up, revealing the sea of devoted fans who had been awaiting the band led by Gary Lightbody, out on tour in support of their new album, “Forest Is the Path”.

From there, it was a set packed with anthems. “Chocolate” and “Called Out in the Dark” followed, keeping the momentum high before the emotional “Crack the Shutters” provided a moment of warmth on a rather chilly night in East Yorkshire. “Set the Fire to the Third Bar” saw a beautiful performance with Martha Wainwright appearing on a visual behind the band, while “Run” sounded awesome with a guitar solo delivery that left me in awe.

Dedication

A touching moment came when singer, Gary dedicated “Open Your Eyes” to keyboardist, Johnny McDaid who had injured his hand on a train but had carried on despite the accident some weeks prior, a gesture that struck a chord with the audience. The surprises didn’t stop there either, right before “Chasing Cars”, the band debuted “Everything’s Here and Nothing’s Lost “for the very first time live, lucky Hull!

Speaking of “Chasing Cars”, it became even more special when an audience member named Ash was invited onstage to play acoustic guitar alongside the band. Hull sang along in unison, creating a moment which would not be forgotten in a hurry.

Despite the smashing performance, there was one amusing hiccup—frontman Gary Lightbody accidentally addressed the crowd as Cardiff instead of Hull. Instantly realizing his mistake, he admitted feeling hugely embarrassed, calling it a first in his career. The crowd, however, took it in good spirits, too enthralled by the performance to let it dampen the mood.

Peak Of Their Powers

Closing out the night with ‘Just Say Yes”, Snow Patrol left the stage to ecstatic applause and I was left somewhat smug in the fact that I witnessed a band performing right at the peak of their powers.
