Metal music is alive and kicking after Gojira’s performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The performance by the French heavy metal band has also inspired Slipknot to get involved in the Los Angeles Olympics which is taking place in the USA in 2028.

Think of a typical Olympics opening ceremony and envisioning Slipknot dressed in their ridiculously freaky outfits seems rather fetched! However, given the popularity of Gojira in Paris, who knows? Maybe this could actually become a reality for Corey Taylors’ group.

It was Shawn Crahan, the “Clown”, who publicly made his ambitions known. Moreover, Craham insisted that he felt pride while watching the performance by Gojira. The band has played on the same bill as Slipknot many times and it appears they have a strong friendship with the group.

As with anything like this, you can never say never. There have been countless surprise moments at opening ceremonies over the years. However, the only obstacle may be the amount of competition from other artists. The USA is not short of household names in music across many genres and there is only a finite amount of time available. Therefore, It depends on which direction the organisers want to head down, but keep your fingers crossed, Maggots!
