Slaves, the English punk rock duo from Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent have launched their own record label.

Girl Fight Records is a new venture for the two artists this year, and they’ve already unveiled the first signing as Lady Bird, a three-piece punk band from Kent.

The record label, Girl Fight Records, is named after a 15-second track Slaves’ debut mini-album.

“The label has been launched by Slaves as a way of them being able to support the bands and the music that they love, by-passing the convoluted nature of big record labels and focussing on the nitty gritty”, a statement from Girl Fight reads.

“Girl Fight aims to be about great bands, big tunes and a DIY ethic inherited from the band’s punk rock roots.”

Laurie Vincent from Slaves explained: “It’s not about modelling ourselves against anyone, it’s us putting our mark on the industry. Me and Isaac, I like to think we’re purists. We didn’t form a band to copy anyone else and we’ve never done anything to be like anyone else. This is just something we wanna do and Lady Bird are the first of that.”

Lady Bird’s track Spoons is the label’s inaugural single and they will be playing a BBC Introducing show at The Lexington in London on February 1.

Slaves meanwhile have been confirmed to support Foo Fighters at London Stadium as part of their upcoming ‘Concrete And Gold’ world tour, on the 22nd and 23rd June 2018.
