Can you remember the viral hit, ‘Friday’ by Rebecca Black which took off like wildfire in 2011? Well, the singer is back once again with a new release, and it is pretty damn good!
‘Girlfriend’ proves that Rebecca Black is more of a serious musician than many people think. Furthermore, she became an internet sensation previously for ‘Friday’ and many people claimed it was a ‘joke’. You do not have to search far to find some hate for the hit. But, Rebecca has the last laugh here, she means business and smashes the ball out of the park!
Her vocal is fearless, and she rivals some of the biggest stars at the top of the chart. Her tone is harmonically-rich, and she delights with an infectious performance. So much so, it is most likely her most influential delivery to date. But, will it be enough to push her to the top? Only time will tell.
Unorthodox
Musically, ‘Girlfriend’ is a little unorthodox given that it does not follow a pattern which is the norm in modern pop. Instead, plenty of eclectic sounds reach out of the mix and it proves that Rebecca Black is not afraid to try something new and who can blame her? Nevertheless, the music does become quite intense with it rarely taking a step back. It is a little exhausting and a few short breaks could have been advantageous, mainly to keep the excitement flowing instead of being a constant push.
