New York’s coolest indie duo, Phantogram butter up our ears with their new song, “Attaway”. This is indie at its finest and by heck are we in love with this from the group who formed in 2007 in Greenwich, NY.

Strong Opener

“Attaway” is from the band’s album, “Memory Of A Day” and it starts with a thunderous opener. Moreover, drums which are being hit with vigour appear from a distance, it feels as though they are getting closer before eventually meeting the vocal from Sarah Barthel who stands out for all the right reasons with her highly powerful performance. The synths blend harmoniously with the music which is emerging in the background and before long all the sounds come together in unision to create a wall of sound which creates a lasting impact in my mind.

Meaning Of “Attaway” By Phantogram

The lyrics speak about nostalgia and regret and the singer, Sarah looks back at life, potentially with a sense of loss and guilt about the mistakes which were made which cannot be reversed. She reflects on memories and unresolved issues with people who are no longer present. There are also references to “Marigold” and this is often associated with remembrance or even mourning serving as yet another indication that the track is about memories that linger.

Overall, I am a big fan of this new one by Phantogram. I first got into the band back in 2014 after discovering their album, “Voices”. Since then they have gone from strength to strength and despite their somewhat slow climb to fame, they are now well and truly firing on all cylinders as evidenced here with “Attaway”.
