When Manchester-based indie band Joy Division formed all the way back in 1976, the idea of artificial intelligence writing a complete song would have sounded like something out of a sci-fi movie, it would have sounded absurd! Still though, even after all this time since their formation, Peter Hook, the former bassist and co-founder still hates the idea of AI writing music and given his points, he does seem to have a strong argument.
Peter makes his views very clear, calling AI in music and songwriting an insult to legendary names like David Bowie. Moreover, he said that songwriting is a talent which comes from within, something which is not able to be replicated by AI, regardless of how good you can make the machine. He also argues that AI is not possible to create the quality that humans bring to making music, thus making AI in music an inferior choice when making music.
Peter Hook and the Light
Hook who is the frontman of Peter Hook and the Light also spoke about his joy playing New Order songs in the way in which he believes the fans want to hear them, this comes after years of disputing with Bernard Sumner, his former bandmate.
