Pale Waves are back with their new single, ‘Change’, and I have to say I cannot get enough of it! It is everything which I need in my life right about now.
Furthermore, ‘Change’ carries on from where the edgy pop group left off. However, it comes with a refreshing new direction. Moreover, it takes a hint from yesteryear while keeping true to the modern scene.
F-You Vocal
It all gets underway with a gradually increasing overture before a piercing vocal from frontwoman, Heather Baron-Gracie. For me, it sounds like what you may expect if you put Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne’s backlog into a blender. So much so, it has a Swifty hint with the emphasis on melisma, yet it has an ‘F-You’ vocal which many will compare to alt-pop legend Avril Lavigne.
Nevertheless, Heather still boasts a unique quality of her own and I relish how they evolve here. They ditch ‘The 1975’ type of sound which drenched their previous releases. Instead, this track paves a new path, and it would not surprise me to find that they find influence from pop-rock music which made noise in the early 2000s.
Musically, ‘Change’ is nail-biting with a texture which will knock you off your chair. Also, the Manchester group introduce a myriad of new sounds with a catchy foundation gripping at us like leech from the get-go. Additionally, I cannot get the new hook out of my head. As a result, I keep coming back to it for another fix!
Overall, ‘Change’ is a treat which cements this group even deeper into the history books. Also, they prove that they can be versatile as musicians with them finding a new influence and it is paying off massively!
