As a Marsha Swanson fan, it is always a good Friday when you discover that she has a new release out! Her new offering, “My Rules” is everything we could have wanted and more. It is a track which is from her album “Near Life Experience” and although the record was put out quite some time ago, it still proves to have plenty up its sleeve.
Listening to “My Rules” makes me feel empowered. The opening section is bold and the potent textures help cement the message. Even before listening to this track, you can already tell that it is going to be about doing things your way, and wanting your rules to reign, I was not mistaken either as Marsha candidly speaks about influence and the challenges which arise when trying to change someone else rules and perceptions.
This track has a groovy mid-part, something which I was not expecting I will be honest. Moreover, there is a funky bass riff mid-way through and a groove which immediately makes you want to dance, it is almost something you would likely hear on a Niles Rogers album, great work, Marsha!
