Getting lost in the music is something which has become a norm while listening to Ludovico Einaudi for me. Furthermore, his new composition, “Jay” is the perfect New Year virtual getaway with his trademark piano tones gracing the ears like a gentle breeze.
Personal Touch
“Jay” has a raw quality and it begins with the sound of subtle clatter; it almost feels as though Ludovico is playing to me personally in my room. This is a technique which pays off as although it has been streamed in excess of 280,000 times as of writing this review, there is a personal connection I feel to his playing. The gentle piano tones lead us forward and although there is nothing hugely complex in the piece, it has a weight which can be felt emotionally.
A New Space
The structure changes somewhat in the mid-section with Ludovico Einaudi delving into a new space before returning to the higher notes first introduced in the overture. For me, classical music tells a story without the use of words and “Jay” does that for me. There is a sense of introspection here, almost like looking back at happy times, possibly remembering challenging periods while also returning to look forward with joy and optimism.
Based in Italy, Ludovico Einaudi has been charming ears since the 1980s and fast forward to the present day and he is still proving to be one of the most compelling composers of our time. He manages to capture beauty within his music and he creates a thought-provoking experience for all to enjoy.
