“Kiki, do you love me?” Apparently we all love Kiki a little too much. The song from Drake’s new album Scorpion, has rocketed to the top of the streaming charts. Thanks largely to the dance challenge started by comedian Shiggy, going viral. However, it’s now landing people in trouble with the law.
Police forces across the world, including India, the US and Spain have appealed for people to stop trying the challenge or they will be charged if caught. In Florida the police are issuing $1,000 fines for people caught jumping out of a moving vehicle and dancing alongside it.
It’s true that the boy Does Right And Kills Everything, especially viral dance videos and memes, a la Hotline bling.
Now everyone from Will Smith, Ciara, Steven Akoi (my personal favourite) and Drake himself, to a dashing dentist and just about every man, woman and child that has been learning to floss all summer, is doing doing the Shiggy dance challenge.
However, the In My Feelings challenge has evolved a new and potentially life threatening twist. Now the routine is performed whilst Ghostriding the Whip, hopping out the car whilst its still in motion and dancing around it. Needless to say, things have started to go horribly wrong for some people. There are numerous videos of people falling out the car, walking into lamp posts, getting car jacked and as you can imagine, the list goes on. Now one attempt has almost had a fatal ending, as was nearly the case for Florida resident Jaylen Norwood. Whilst filming his own version, he sees a car coming, slips as he tries to get away, and is hit in the face by the car. Very fortunately, Jaylen walked away with just a few scrapes and bumps. He has posted the video on IG, in which he reveals, that he was supposed to jump onto the hood of the car, but slipped on a wet patch in that final moment.
Hopefully that should be enough to discourage any of you from trying the In my feelings challenge, but if that’s not enough, then perhaps these words from the Mumbai Police force will.
“Desist from public nuisance or face the music!”
