I was one of those kids who grew up listening to Kaiser Chiefs. I remember I must have been around 15 when their hit album, ‘Employment’ came out and I still to this day believe it is one of the albums which brought me closer to indie rock.
Fast forward to the modern-day and Kaiser Chiefs mesmerise me yet again with their new release ‘Zombie Prom’. Furthermore, they kick off in a similar direction to what I remembered all those years ago. Moreover, the guitar comes with a potent flavour which we all need in our lives right about now!
Ricky Wilson
Also, the vocal from frontman, Ricky Wilson is top class as always. He sings with a quality which is hard to criticise. Also, he brings catchy melodies back to the forefront of indie with a hook which will stick to you like a fast-drying adhesive.
Musically, ‘Zombie Prom’ comes with a unique angle when comparing it to the rest of the noise in the current chart. As a result, it boasts a texture which comes just that little bit different. Also, the arrangement is refreshing with the shape changing regularly. So much so, the track almost flips towards the latter with it become even more piercing with Ricky providing a more theatrical performance.
Overall, this new track can do no wrong in my eyes. I relish the guitar tone, and the rhythm has me swaying to its timeless foundation. But, is this is the best yet from Kaiser Chiefs? It is certainly up there. Also, it proves that the band are just as relevant today as they were when indie was talk of the town.
