It is hard to believe that Jake Bugg is now over the age of 30, given that to me he still seems new on the scene, but in reality, he isn’t, in fact, it has been 12 years since his debut album which took the scene by a thunderous storm. However, beyond his youthful persona and looks, you soon discover an artist who has heaps of maturity and talent under his sleeve, hence why he is still gracing our ears in 2024.
Nostalgic Quality
His new single “Keep on Moving” which dropped on August 16th, 2024 is a proper indie treat and it has a nostalgic quality which I relish more than ever before! It feels as though we are losing some of the trademark British rock sounds and vibes, but here Jake Bugg keeps them current with a groove which would make a Brit-pop lover’s ears melt with excitement. For me, the influences go back even further too with many sounds akin to that of great 70s bands.
Jake Bugg Guitar Tones
The guitar work is one thing which stands out to me, the tones are easy on the ear and fill me with excitement. They remind me why this genre of music never gets old and although the track does not really create anything entirely new, it feels new given that there are not many bands in the scene today doing anything quite like it. The vocals from Jake Bugg are also noteworthy, he has a quality which many will compare to that of John Power from Cast, this is especially true on his other recent track “All Kinds Of People”.
For me, I am giving this track a 4 out of 5 rating, but I would say a very high four. It makes me optimistic, and excited for the future of indie music!
