Harry Styles is just one of the many celebrities using their platform to express their solidarity for those campaigning against racism, and the Black Lives Matter movement.
In recent weeks we have seen many protests taking place after the shocking death of George Floyd. For anyone, who is not aware of the initial story, George Floyd died in hospital after a police officer kneeled on his kneck, causing him to suffocate. Independent autopsy reports and Minnesota officials have since come out to state that the death was a homicide.
Since George’s death, many have been protesting on the streets to stand in support of anti-racism. But, it has resulted in the arrest of many of the protest organisers.
Harry took to Twitter to express his support. He said, “I do things every day without fear, because I am privileged, and I am privileged every day because I am white,” he penned. “Being not racist is not enough; we must be anti-racist.”
He also went onto say “I stand in solidarity with all of those protesting. I’m donating to help post bail for arrested organisers. Look inwards, educate yourself and others. LISTEN, READ, SHARE, DONATE and VOTE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. BLACK LIVES MATTER.”
However, Harry is not the only celebrity to make his opinion known. Other stars including JAY-Z, Beyonce, Ariana Grande and many more are joining in to help raise awareness for Black Lives Matter. Also, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is going to pay for George Floyd’s funeral.
For me, it is heartbreaking to see racism. As a result, as a platform, GSGM firmly stands in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Let’s stop racism for good!
