Halsey is an artist who I always look forward to hearing whenever she has a new single out and her new track, “I Never Loved You” is right up my street! This new one from Halsey is from the recent EP of the same title which also includes tracks, “Ego”, “Lonely is the Muse”, “Lucky” and “The End.

Heartfelt

“I Never Loved You” is a heartfelt track, something which Halsey is becoming known for, especially when listening to recent releases. It is also a track which speaks candidly about relationships, most importantly the pain which comes with failed relationships which turn toxic. The song starts with a lo-fi, crackly overture, it has a nostalgic feel as the piano tones gently work their way to the forefront of the mix.

Halsey reaches for the microphone with true passion and the way she delivers the vocals are distinct, providing a message with raw quality. The track has a very strong emotional dialogue, something which you can easily get lost in when you delve deep and the singer explores the notion that there was something broken in a relationship she was in even from the start and nothing could have saved it as everything ended up falling through.

Move On

In the chorus sections, she speaks about moving on from the relationship and advising the other to “take the money and leave”. This all sounds straightforward, but in reality, there is a lot of emotional pain experienced and this can be felt in the way that Halsey articulates the message through a powerful singing technique.

Overall, I cannot get enough of “I Never Loved You” and personally I think that Halsey is right at the top of her game currently and delivering her best work.
