George Ezra has stated that he will dedicate a performance in aid of the mental health charity ‘Mind’, at London’s Union Chapel in December. The British born 24-year-old singer/songwriter has announced that there will be a slew of special guests to accompany him on stage. He has been amassing donations from fans since a tour earlier on in 2017 and Ezra was pleasantly surprised at the amount collected at each show. With such a positive response from his supporters who rose over £2000 in a fortnight, he thought that it would be a good idea to play an entire show in donation to the charity. He said that the “Union Chapel is one of the most beautiful venues to play in London and the cause is a charity that I believe are doing truly great things. The night will be a warm and cosy celebration of music and community.”
Mind is an organisation that provides “advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.” They increase awareness and promote a clearer comprehension of mental health issues, which have been historically misunderstood by the public. George Ezra was present at a cinema ceremony in Leicester Square this month, where Prince Harry spoke out against the stigma of mental health. The prince hailed the flood of people across the country now feeling comfortable to talk about their wellbeing and not being afraid of judgement. Harry also praised those who are ‘normalising’ mental health. George Ezra was a part of this tribute and proves the power of celebrities who choose to use their platform to promote positive social change.
With an unrelenting 24 hour media spotlight shone onto them, intensive demands from fans with diverse wants and long periods away from friends and family travelling on tour, we have seen a range of music artists suffer mental health issues- most commonly depression. This is why a support mechanism like Mind is so vital, as it provides help and advice for anyone facing mental health problems, no matter what their status.
