‘Don’t Say It’s Over’ by Gaz Coombes – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆
It has been quite some years since Gaz Coombes first got our attention with his band, Supergrass, all the way back in the 1990s. However, with the release of his newest track, ‘Don’t Say It’s Over’, he continues to demonstrate his growth as a musician and his ability to impress.
The track is better than anything we could have hoped for from the innovative musician from the United Kingdom. He is constantly pushing the boundaries of his musical inventions. Also, he does so in a way that is both definitive and exciting. In addition, ‘Don’t Say It’s Over’ captures our attention from the very first note. It does not let go of our focus until the very last second.
Entrancing Atmosphere
Vocally, Gaz inspires with a compelling performance that straps itself to an entrancing atmosphere. It is full of stadium-filling drum hits, sparkling synth loops, and foot-tapping bass leads. Gaz’s ardent and heartfelt discussion of love and the emotions one has when utterly enamoured with someone who is very important to them contributes significantly to the narrative’s moving quality. He also investigates the idea of desiring a special thing to continue on forever. He expresses that he wishes he could stay in that special moment eternally.
‘Don’t Say It’s Over’ will be included on the new album that Gaz Coombes will release on January 13, 2023, called ‘Turn The Car Around’. If the rest of the record is anything like this single, then the singer-songwriter’s new album will be a real treat for all of us.
