Current Opinion
It took me a bit of time to get on board with Fontaines D.C., I do not talk for the majority though in that opinion though clearly as the group have taken the scene by storm in recent years. But, I did not connect with their songs immediately, although as time has gone on, I have come to look forward to their new releases. Their new track “In The Modern World” from their album “Romance“, is a deep, introspective track and it will be a delight for the band’s diehard fans, for me, it does not bring me much closer.
Songwriting Quality
“In The Modern World” is a solid track in terms of songwriting and music, and although the first listen did not do too much for me, I have to say I do really enjoy the parts when the guitar takes centre stage around 2 minutes and 40 seconds, the powerful music which the band create is something I really enjoy. I think this is one of the aspects which keeps me coming back to the band, a lot of the songs have certain parts which I really relish but then there are other parts that in all honestly fail to evoke a response in me.
Niche Sound
Fontaines D.C. are an incredible band though musically and they have accrued a large following since their initial launch back in 2014, but I do not think they are everyone’s cup of tea. Their sound is niche, it focuses a lot on poetry, as opposed to appealing to the masses and those who may be sitting on the fence. Nevertheless, they are still early in their career and they are churning a lot of tunes out, therefore they could still get to that major festival “headline” status. Also, “I Love You” by Fontaines D.C. will always be one of my favourite tracks of the 2020s.
