Following the success of his latest album Please Don’t Be Dead released in June, Fantastic Negrito has had smash performances recently at Boomtown Festival as well as Nell’s.
Critics have celebrated Fantastic Negrito’s talent as an artist for transforming the brutality and challenges of the streets into carefully crafted musical genius that has appeal to all. After a stint as a drug hustler and street busker, Fantastic Negrito has worked relentlessly to make his voice heard and the result is an absolute belter of an album. The Delta Blues influence is undeniable and he entwines the sounds of funk and hip hop to stamp his individuality on the record. The tracks vary from powerful messages of political protest to seductive baby-making rhythms.
His compelling interview on renowned US TV show CBS This Morning: Saturday and showcased several of his tunes, showing just a fraction of his immense musical capabilities and stunning skills. Whilst Please Don’t Be Dead is propelled by anger and protest against the injustices of addiction and corruption, Fantastic Negrito’s voice contains a glimmer of hope for a better future and something to hang onto in such times of unrest. As long as this artist sticks around, we’re sure it will be.
