Following a severe eye infection, British music great Elton John, 77, has stated he is now experiencing notable vision loss. On a special gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical in London on Sunday, the legendary “Tiny Dancer” and “Rocket Man” singer revealed the health update.
Sincere Words
After the stage rendition of the beloved 2006 film, John, who wrote the soundtrack, spoke to the crowd with sincere words. He said his poor vision had prevented him from seeing many preview shows.
“It’s hard for me to see it but I love to hear it and boy it sounded good tonight,” Elton commented.
Elton John AIDS Foundation
Attended in honour of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the gala event drew well-known celebrities including Lily Collins, Anna Wintour, and Donatella Versace. Also, notwithstanding the difficulties, John thanked his partner David Furnish for his constant support on and off stage.
Illness
Elton John first revealed his illness in September via an Instagram post, saying he had reduced vision in one eye from a serious eye infection. He underlined in his ongoing recovery that the mending process is slow.
He stated, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
