Pulled Out

Leading the nominations with five nods, pop star Charli XCX has unexpectedly pulled out of her booked BRIT Awards performance. Originally scheduled to perform at London’s O2 Arena on March 1, the 32-year-old British singer had advanced talks but withdrew this week following months of negotiations.

Former Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall, also 32, is now under talks to headline the esteemed UK music event instead. Charli’s choice comes as she gets ready for a big performance at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles where she has received eight nominations. The California wildfires have caused a scaling back of the US ceremony, hence Charli’s post-show festivities have also been subdued.

A music insider revealed: “She was set to perform. However, she ultimately felt that it didn’t feel right and didn’t want the added pressure.”

The source said: “She has planned a huge performance for the Grammys, and the idea of doing the same again at the BRITs felt overwhelming. She still intends to attend the BRITs, but she wants to enjoy the night and celebrate without the stress of performing—especially as she won’t be able to party properly after the Grammys.”
