Yes, you heard it right boys and girls, Teddy, AKA Ed Sheeran the ketchup lover is back with his new single, “Azizam” co-written by Snow Patrol member, Johnny McDaid. This new release, officially released on the 4th of April 2025 welcomes a new era for Sheeran with him incorporating middle-eastern influences.

Song Analysis (Azizam Review)

“Azizam” is an energetic track, therefore if you are here trying to find another “Perfect” then you may as well browse away now. This new one is a summer anthem, I can almost feel myself driving the streets with this on full blast. It comes in pretty quick too with a pace of around 128 bpm, a similar speed to tracks like “Love Is The Only Thing” by Lost Frequencies and “Dance With Me” by Tones And I, already before listening you will realise this one is a dance hit. The song also features a broad mix of instruments from infectious bass grooves, and foot-tapping drum beats to the ghatam, daf, santoor and the hammered dulcimer.

Ed Sheeran – “Azizam” Lyrics (Azizam Review)

Chorus
Azizam
Meet me on the floor tonight
Show me how to move like the water
In between the dancing lights
Be mine, be mine, azizam

Verse 1
I wanna be nowhere but here with you now
I wanna be one in this space
I wanna be tangled and wrapped in your cloud
I wanna be close to your face

Pre-Chorus
Well, tomorrow can wait, losing time in this place
Till the sun is awake, be like a magnet on me
I don’t care what they say, we can do it our way
And if love’s just a game, then come and play

Chorus
Azizam
Meet me on the floor tonight
Show me how to move like the water
In between the dancing lights
Be mine, be mine, azizam

Post-Chorus
Azizam
Azizam

Verse 2
I wanna get lost in your ocean and drown
I wanna be careless and free
I wanna live here in the moment we found
I wanna be all that you see

Pre-Chorus
Well, tomorrow can wait, losing time in this place
Till the sun is awake, be like a magnet on me
I don’t care what they say, we can do it our way
And if love’s just a game, then come and play

Chorus
Azizam
Meet me on the floor tonight
Show me how to move like the water
In between the dancing lights
Be mine, be mine, azizam
Meet me on the floor tonight
Show me how to move like the water
In between the dancing lights
Be mine, be mine, azizam

Post-Chorus
Azizam
Azizam

Meaning (My Opinion) (Azizam Review)

Ed Sheeran speaks about magic of love and connection on both a physical and emotional level. Using the Persian term “Azizam,” which translates into English as “my dear” or “my beloved,” Sheeran brings a universal intimacy to the song and he blends cultures through language and emotion. The chorus invites a partner to the dance floor, not just as a literal space but as a metaphor for vulnerability, passion, and shared energy. Also, with imagery like “move like the water” and “dancing lights,” Ed captures the fluidity and rhythm of love, how it flows, glows, and evolves in the moment.

The verses push deeper into the longing and closeness that love inspires. Wrapped in the warmth of another person’s presence, Ed wants to be present and totally in the moment. Moreover, lines like “I wanna get lost in your ocean and drown” highlight a yearning to be consumed by love, to surrender control and embrace the beauty of emotional connection. Additionally, adding to the song’s gentle, emotional impact is the recurring use of “Azizam,” which serves as both a refrain and a loving anchor too; clever, right?
