Ariana Grande has overtaken previous instagram queen Selena Gomez to become the most followed woman on Instagram in the world.
Furthermore, Ariana has racked up a massive follower count of 146,286,173. However, there is not much separating both the ‘Love Me Harder’ star and Gomez with only 18372 between them.
The reason for the sudden surge in popularity for Ariana has come off the back of her release of her latest album “Thank U, Next”. The release was her second number one billboard 200 album in just six months. Furthermore, it opened with 360,000 copies, the best sales of her career.
Also according to Billboard, ‘Thank U, Next’ marked the most first-week streams ever for a pop album, and for any album by a female artist. Ariana Grande also made chart history by replacing herself at the top of the U.K chart. Furthermore, “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” knocked her previous number one track, “7 Rings”, off the top spot.
Moreover, Ariana has a bit of a way to go to reach the most followed person on Instagram. Cristiano Ronaldo currently holds the helm with 155 million followers. However, with Grande breaking records left right and centre, there will be no shock if she does become the most followed instagram user in the very near future.
