Alessia Cara review: If you have been keeping an eye on my most recent reviews, you will soon discover that I have a soft spot for Alessia Cara; her music is delightful! That is probably the best way to describe her new song, “Fire” too from her recent album “Love & Hyperbole” which dropped on the 14th of January 2025 through Def Jam Recordings which is a division of UMG recordings.

Technical Analysis (Alessia Cara Review)

The track which was produced by Mike Elizondo and Jon Levine starts with the gradual ascent of echoey synths, a piano arrangement soon emerges ahead of a salient drum cadence and a vocal from Alessia Cara which is simply divine. I worked out that the track has a tempo of around 126 bpm (give or take) and its steady pace allows us to step back and self-reflect as Alessia sings on top of beautiful music which I found to be in the key of E flat major.

The Meaning (My Expert Opinion)

The lyrics for “On Fire” resonate with themes of intense passion and personal transformation. The opening verses describe an emotional and physical shift, as Alessia feels both overwhelmed and awakened by an all-consuming connection with someone. The metaphor of being “on fire” throughout the chorus reflects a sense of being alive with desire and also energy and it is captured perfectly in the line “Pick me up and take me home.” A recurring picture that occurs to me is fire, which stands for a strong force propelling human development, pushing us, in this case, Alessia to face her previous faults and welcome a fresh perspective on herself.

In addition to transformation, “Fire” pushes into themes of longing and devotion. Alessia’s desire to be near someone she deeply cares about is evident in the bridge section, where she says, “I wanna be where you are.” This for me underscores her need for closeness and connection. The recurrence of “I’m on fire” highlights even more the depth of her feelings and supports the concept of being driven to be with the person she loves most; powerful right? It left an impact on me.
