English indie-pop starlet, Alessi Rose leaves us hooked on her new release, “start all over”. This new track from her EP of the same title is right up my street and it has a contagious flow which had me returning the moment it reached the final note.

Angelic Vocals

“start all over” starts with a country inspired acoustic guitar rhythm before stepping into a palm muted section to make way for the angelic vocals from Alessi Rose. Alessi steps up from the start and takes us on a voyage with a storyline which hits home. The music finds newfound energy as it progresses with a foot-tapping drum rhythm emerging in the mid-section.

The Meaning (My Perception)

The song explores the complexities of a relationship filled with emotional tension and unspoken expectations. Alessi yearns for connection but realizes the futility of clinging to something that is fleeting. In the opening verse, there’s a sense of being swept away by a kiss that’s both euphoric and short-lived, setting the stage for a love that’s powerful yet out of reach. The pre-chorus reveals Alessi’s growing cynicism, feeling stuck in a cycle with someone who constantly moves between coming back and leaving, leaving her emotionally drained.

The chorus and post-chorus amplify the frustration, as Alessi struggles with the idea of taking the first step in a relationship where neither person seems willing to fully commit. The words catch the fragility of opening up to someone just to be left hanging. Furthermore, Alessi’s repeated “Da-da-da” throughout the song represents inner struggle and resignation since she is caught between the necessity to guard herself from more emotional damage and her want of love.
