I Am > I Was is the latest release from rapper and producer, 21 Savage. The album consists of 15 tracks and features the likes of Post Malone, Offset and Childish Gambino.
It comes one year after his debut album ‘Issa Album’ and was due to be released on December 7 but fans were left waiting and a tweet was published saying “Dam I forgot to drop my album my bad y’all.”
The opening track ‘A lot’ features lyrics surrounding the controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine who is currently spending time in jail. J Cole raps; “Pray for Tekashi / They want him to rot / I picture him inside a cell on a cot / Reflecting on how he made it to the top / Wondering if it was worth it or not.”
Talking on the release of the album, his label Slaughter Gang / Epic Records commented; “His razor sharp flows, clever ad-libs, smooth delivery, big screen-ready lyrics, and incisive hooks cut deeper than ever before. At the same time, he gets more personal and, as a result, more powerful.”
21 Savage Opens Up About The Music
21 commented; “I’m going back to what brought me in the door… I wanna get back on some gangsta sh*t ’cause I feel like everybody rap about money and cars all day. Like they say I rap about too much guns and sh*t, but that’s what the hell be going on. That’s what really be going on, like, in real life.”
After a quiet year for 21 Savage, the album rounds off 2018 on a high with the huge collaborations throughout the tracks. However, earlier this month ‘Immortal’ was shared which is a track that will appear on the ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ which will be released in April next year.
He also hopes to scoop some awards next year, already nominated for two Grammy’s; “Record of the Year” and “Best Rap/Sung Performance” for his contribution on Post Malone’s track ‘Rockstar’.
